Clarets Trust - Renewals Due

Credit Card Campaign Gathers Momentum - 03/05/2006

Working with the club's management and the Clarets Trust, our Burnley MP, Kitty Ussher has been highlighting the problem of banks refusing to pass on all the takings from credit and debit cards immediately, preferring to pay the club by instalments.

Having taken up the baton to expose the scandal of the banks in relation to Season Ticket payments by Credit & Debit Cards, Kitty is now running with it as she attempts to raise the profile of this issue and seek support from key organisations.

She is quoted as saying on the Clubs Official Site "I think this is an outrageous practice, which is no help at all to the club, and basically means that the banks are making money out of loyal supporters. I'm raising the issue with ministers, with the Office of Fair Trading, the Consumer Association and the Financial Services Authority.

She has also made the following plea to Clarets fans:

`In the meantime I say to fellow Clarets out there - pay by cheque or cash if you possibly can. That way you'll be sure of the money getting where it belongs straight away. Please also sign the petition organised by the Clarets Trust to show you care at; http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/ctseasonticket

Our online Clarets Trust petition now has nearly 150 signatures and we have a few hundred more signed up on the various paper versions!

Kitty has also been supported in this by Dave Edmundson, Chief Executive of Burnley FC who is quoted as saying:

"Season ticket monies are the very lifeblood of a club like Burnley. The loyalty of fans renewing their season tickets in April, literally helps us survive through the summer months when there is no football revenue. Our budget forecasts are set to reflect season ticket revenue and if credit and debit card payments are only drip fed into the Club, this causes a serious cash flow problem. The banks claim that they are concerned about our financial stability but by withholding money, they are just making our situation worse."

If you have not yet signed the petitions therefore, please do so and help Kitty in her campaign knowing this is fully supported by both Clarets Trust and Burnley FC
